                    Alice Lemon – Membership

                    Mike Mueller – Webmaster

2.               Andi asked for the minutes for the April 14, 2005 meeting.  Mike was not at the April board meeting and no one else took minutes.

3.         Treasury report - On deposited: $3,850.47.  Today receive dues from one individual $25) and a donation ($30). There was a question about membership numbers going down.  Andi mentioned that those who haven’t come in a long time have been removed and a few members have passed away.

  1.      Old Business:
    1. A review of upcoming speakers

1)  June - Several choices depending who are available: Buddhist speaker and/or Solstice party.

2)  July - Laura Manis – Silver Legislation

3)  August - Buddhist speaker – Andi has name

4)  September - Amnesty International

5)  October - ACLU

6)  November - Sylvia Luke, House Chair Judiciary Committee

7)  December – picnic on the 18th at Queen Surf Beach.

b. It was decided for June that Carolyn would check on getting a Buddhist                           speaker for the meeting.  Afterwards there would be a Solstice potluck party outside.

   5.      New Business:

a.   Mike Mueller recommended that the Secular Humanists Hawaii enter the Gay Pride on June 25, 2005. The board agreed and an entry fee of $65.00 would be paid.  Mike Golojuch will submit the application and ask that the Secular Humanist be next to PFLAG-Oahu and the First Unitarian Church because these two groups are splitting the cost of a trolley and the Humanists members can also ride in the trolley.

b.   Mike Mueller moved that a budget of $50 be authorized for flyer to be passed out at parade to encourage people to join Humanists Hawaii.  The board approved the request.

c.   A discussion about other ways to increase membership through advertising included having an ad in the University Ka Leo student newspaper.  It was also recommended that the faculty newsletter/paper include an ad.   Another suggestion was to buy an ad as a sponsor for the Hawaii International Film Festival.  Similar suggestions were made about the Symphony, Rainbow Film Festival and/or other functions that would allow name recognition.  Another idea was to put something in the Honolulu Weekly.  Several people volunteered to look into several of these ideas and report back at the next meeting.

6.         Next meeting:   Sunday, June 26, 2005, 10:30 am at Krauss Hall, Room 112.

7.         Adjournment:  The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 pm.

Addendum:

Here are two additions to the minutes that I suggest:

1)  to the members present:  Makami Juel Gustafson

I don't have the name of the man who joined us.  Who can help with his name?

2)  To New Business: item c:

Andi volunteered to check into the possibility of an ad in the Honolulu Symphony; Carolyn volunteered to check out Hawaii International Film Festival.

This sentence could be added to this item.

Thank you Mike for grease lightening minutes!   Any other suggestions?  Please reply to Mike G.   CG
